John Doherty who opened marmalade at Dogpole in 2020, followed a lifelong interest and passion for interiors and qualified as an interior designer over 20 years ago.

Whilst living in Devon for 14 years he was able to express his interest with design running a successful holiday let business and further gaining retail experience working for a major retail outlet.

Having decided to move back to the Midlands in 2019 from where his roots were, he decided to open a shop selling interior accessories which is where his passion lies.

He chooses items that are unusual, colourful and eclectic, working with inspiring and creative artisans from the UK.

From opening in 2020 John has seen the growing interest in hand made, eclectic and colourful lampshades and is now specializing and producing shades in his own Shropshire workshop using his crafting skills, offering an array of designs and colours and also offering a bespoke service with customers providing their own material to have shades hand made to their own specifications.

Shrewsbury was chosen as a lovely place to base his shop, with its beautiful period architecture and its wide choice of boutique shops.
